This classic ghost story by Washington Irving and adapted by Vera Morris, is directed by Sharon Redman. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tells the story of Tarry Town, a place where strange things happen and the townspeople seem entranced by spirits. Ichabod Crane, a well-educated teacher, is new to Sleepy Hollow and seems to fit right in. He’s taking over the choir, courting the wealthy daughter and sharing a ghost story or two. But not everyone is happy to see Ichabod and not everyone thinks he loves ghost stories as much as he says. He meets a mysterious fate. Legend has it that he is the victim of the dreaded “headless horseman” who allegedly haunts Sleepy Hollow.

If in recent years, Tomasson’s curation has come to seem predictable, in Program 3, the artistic director found new sources of ingenuity, reminiscent of a museum curator finding new life in familiar works juxtaposed in surprising combinations, The most unlikely choice was his placement of the “Kingdom of the Shades” excerpt from Marius Petipa’s 1877 “La Bayadere,” alongside Hans van Manen’s 2012 “Variations for Two Couples” and William Forsythe’s 1996 “Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude,” which, despite its age, is still as cheeky as ever, Tomasson saw common ground in 20th and early 21st century manipulations of ballet and the stunningly spare precision dancing of dance with all your heart|dance svg|ballet svg|dancing svg|ballet dancer svg|heart svg|dance|ballet|svg “La Bayadere.”..

At journey’s end, the characters discover unexpected revelations about true love, friendship, appearances and the true nature of ugliness, “We’re thrilled to showcase a phenomenally-talented cast of young actors who can sing and dance, and make lightning quick character changes,” said Lori Stokes, artistic director and founder of StarStruck Youth Performing Arts, “This is such a costume- and makeup-intensive production that, with the exception of Donkey and Shrek, every cast member has at least dance with all your heart|dance svg|ballet svg|dancing svg|ballet dancer svg|heart svg|dance|ballet|svg one costume change, For this one show alone, we have over 60 wigs, Not to mention countless varieties of noses and snouts.”..

But this was a mixed performance by the soprano, whose lower range lacked pop and whose expressiveness didn’t always go to the marrow. Still, she brought sweetness and ease to the rich contours of “Green” and lavish sound to “Spleen,” the suite’s bleakest song, which Holloway ends with a lush shiver. After intermission, Fleming was more in her element, singing three selections from Canteloube’s “Chants d’Auvergne,” settings of folk songs from the composer’s native Auvergne region in central France. These are directly communicative pieces, and richly melodic. With his orchestrations, Canteloube sets the solo voice like a big fat jewel, expecting it to shine.
